How Does a Hoverboard Battery Work?
During the charging process, the hoverboard battery inputs energy through an external power source, and the battery management system controls the charging current so that the lithium ions are removed from the positive electrode material and migrate through the electrolyte to the negative electrode. At the negative electrode, lithium ions are embedded in the graphite layer gap, while electrons flow through the external circuit to the negative electrode, which combines with lithium ions to complete energy storage. With the progress of charging, the battery voltage gradually increases until it reaches the set threshold and enters the full state.
When discharging, the hoverboard needs electrical energy to operate, lithium ions are removed from the negative electrode and migrated back to the positive electrode through the electrolyte, while electrons flow along the external circuit to the positive electrode, driving the motor to work and providing power output. In this process, the chemical energy of the battery is converted into electricity, which supports the motion, lighting and control system operation of the hoverboard. As the discharge progresses, the battery voltage gradually decreases. When the voltage reaches the minimum safety threshold, the BMS cuts the circuit to prevent overdischarge from damaging the battery.
