How Does a 12V LiFePO4 Battery Work?
The 12V lithium iron phosphate battery is a rechargeable battery that works based on the migration of lithium ions. During the charging process, the external power supply inputs electrical energy into the battery through the battery management system (BMS). Lithium ions deintercalate from the positive electrode (lithium iron phosphate), migrate through the electrolyte to the negative electrode (usually graphite), and intercalate into the graphite crystal to store energy and form the charging state.
Meanwhile, electrons flow to the negative electrode through the external circuit to maintain the charge balance. The entire process causes the battery voltage to rise until it reaches the fully charged set value.
During the discharge process, when connected to a load such as RV electrical appliances or Marine navigation systems, lithium ions are released from the negative electrode, migrate back to the positive electrode through the electrolyte, and at the same time, electrons release energy through the external circuit, forming a current for the use of the equipment. This process continues until the terminal voltage of the battery discharge.
